One of the first things my course mentions is the fact that, unlike other law courses, it is not a traditional ‘Black Letter’ course.
Basically what a Black Letter course is one where a specific area of the law would be critically evaluated, whereas this course intends to take a multi-disciplinary approach, thus challenging the status quo.
We are told to be preapred for this as it may shock us to learn that not everything in law is black and white.
My view?
Thank God for that.
Any profession which would assume to be without fault would be an arrogant one indeed…
…Especially in light of that fact that injustices occur all the time.
By learning about, and understanding the law proper would, I hope, prepare us to make as few errors of judgement as humanly possible.
Assuming we are honest and intend to act with integrity.
